Title: Lilah
MyBoyGus - November 21, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
Looks like I am getting a foster this weekend. Her name is Lilah, she is imported from Florida. A girl saved her from a kill shelter, but didn't realize what having a puppy meant. She called her mom and her mom said that she would take her. However, the mom has Jack Russels, and now that she is bigger than they are, they are starting to get a bit pissed at this upstart. So she is coming into rescue. She is a mix, but not a huge mix. It's possible that it is just bad breeding.
It's going to be a busy weekend, I am dogsitting Holly this weekend too. :speechlesssmiley

Maybe this will keep Eddie out of trouble. :laughingsmile

You never know Lynn. I have her now. I took Gus with me to go meet the person who had her. She loved Gus immediately (who wouldn't), but she was a bit shy with me. A few treats took care of that. When we got home, Eddie was acting like a goofball as usual. He wanted to play, but he barked at her and he is huge next to her. So he intimidated her a bit. So she was my best friend for a while, she hung out under my computer chair where she was "safe". It's been kind of funny, Eddie and Holly were playing, and she would come out from under my chair and watch. But if they turned their attention to her, she would tuck her tail and run back under my chair. Eddie finally calmed down a bit and started approching her more slowly, at first, he would play bow and charge, and that was too much for her. Remember, she was used to Jack Russells. So they all said hello. Then, every time Eddie would walk by, she would start following him. But when he turned around, she would be back under my chair again.
She finally decided they were OK, and started playbowing to Holly and Eddie and barking at them. They all started playing after that. One time, she actually went under Eddie by going between his 2 front legs, walking the length of his body, and coming out between his back legs, I told you Eddie is tall. And then they ran laps around the house. She is tuckered out right now, laying under my chair taking a nap.
Oh, and the big shock is that she is housetrained. The person told me that she was housetrained with a dog door, but I don't have a dog door. But she had to go outside and she went to the back door and scratched, and when I let her out, she did indeed have to go to the bathroom. Good Girl! She isn't mouthy at all, I have just gotten sweet kisses from her. And she is smart. An all around good girl.
We actually know her age because she was an owner give-up. Her birthday is June 25th, so she will be 5 months old in a few days.

OMG she sounds like a little angel. If only I lived nearer, I feel like I love her already. I was getting goosebumbs reading about her Mel, she sounds so sweet. :hugsmiley
GoldenMom - November 23, 2008 11:52 PM (GMT)
Awwww, she sounds soooo sweet! Whay would anyone give up a dog like that?? Housetrained and everything! Couldn't ask for more than that!!
MyBoyGus - November 24, 2008 12:00 AM (GMT)
She is a little pistol. Yesterday, the gang loved her. Today, she is irritating them a bit. She jumps up and grabs their tails, and jumps at them to irritate them so they will play with her. They get very happy when she goes in the crate to give them a bit of a break. She is a normal puppy, but the gang is exhausted.
The woman who had her near me had jack russells, and she started irritating them too.

Oh I am so happy she is doing well. I hope Debbie can take her. She is a doll.
Mel, I bet you have a hole under your computer table from all the dogs laying in that same spot every time. How cute. They feel safe there.

Ruby the Lab I babysit sometimes, is the same way.
Must be something to do with being a Labby :shrug
Like I asked before, Do they ever slow down?
MyBoyGus - November 24, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
Eventually. She is being spayed tomorrow so she will be down for a few days.

I can't believe how beautiful Lilah is....and I can't believe someone giving her up to a kill shelter. That makes me cry. We do not have a rescue shelter in our area and if we did, Iknow I could not take foster because I would have to keep them all. Mel and to all of you who take in fosters and volunteer at rescue shelter, you guys are all #1. Keep up the good work. The world needs more people like you guys.
MyBoyGus - November 29, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
I still have the girl. We ended up canceling her spay because she growled and snapped at my friend the night before we had her scheduled. So we wanted to take a step back. After that, I found out that she had been abused while she was down in Florida, hit in the face. In the meantime, the person who had her before me had listed her on petfinders, somebody saw her and tracked us down. They are very interested in her. They had the history on her, were used to a shy dog, and really wanted to meet her. My friend came back over that night because we wanted to "test" her again, Lilah decided that she absolutely loved her and took a flying leap into her lap and gave her multiple kisses.
That was the day before Thanksgiving, so things slowed down a bit because of the holiday. I had somebody from Lab Rescue interview them, I really like them a lot. They are coming tomorrow (Sunday) to meet her. So she may have a new home tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed. The boys have both decided that she is tolerable and have started playing with her. She still gets growled at a lot, but she deserves it and is learning from it. I still have to put her in the crate when the boys have had enough. She never wants to quit, this morning, she was so tired she couldn't even see straight. She had been playing with the boys. I put her in the crate and she immediately laid down and went to sleep.
Wish her luck!

Tried to take the sweet right out of her huh? Don't we just love those kinds of people. NOT.
I wish her the best in life. I hope she gets lots of love. Poor girl.
MyBoyGus - November 30, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
Well, good news for Lilah. The people who were interested in her came to meet her. They were slowly with her and plied her with treats, and Lilah took to them. They all loved her and decided to adopt her. I really like this family, their last dog was very similar to Lilah and they did wonderfully with her. Their last dog won all sorts of obedience ribbons and had gotten therapy certified, so I feel that they know exactly what they are getting with Lilah. So she is on her way to her new forever home as I type.

:clap Oh that is so great. I hope she is soooo happy.
SuzySues - December 1, 2008 02:02 PM (GMT)
Oh her new owners sound perfect. Dogs with "issue's" need special owners. (don't I know it! ) I am sure she will have a great life with them. Although the hit in the face will haunt her all her life. :angrysmiley2
