Title: Getting Another One For This Weekend

MyBoyGus - September 12, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
A 1 year old yellow female named Layla. She got adopted on Sunday at the adoption day and the guy wanted a "perfect" dog. She was a stray to the shelter. I noticed her on Sunday, she would bark at cars going by. I'm sure she just needs some work and some patience. These people have adopted before and apparently were very lucky. I told them that I would take her for the weekend, and then I would see how things go with the boys. I'm going to go bang my head into a brick wall now, stupid people. :bangheadsmiley

What in the world is wrong with people???? There is no perfect dog just as there is no perfect people! I wonder how they would have felt if their moms had given them up when they were 3 or 4 years old because they were not perfect?? Ok, deep breath - too early to get my BP up!

Good luck with Layla Gus. Bet the boys will be happy to have another girlfriend for a little while! :laughingsmile

Well, I have Layla now. There is no way this dog is a year old. I suspect that the shelter she was in aged her, they aged her wrong. She is 7-8 months old at the most. She absolutely loves the boys, and Holly too. Eddie is in 7th heaven because he doesn't know which blond to play with. :laughingsmile She is very good, and very sweet. She is just a bit raw, and young. She is a beautiful girl, these pics really don't do her justice. I'll try to get some better pics tomorrow. I doubt she was getting enough exercise either. She is going to be a great dog, she just needs a little patience and training.

Gus is in lust. Eddie and Gus are tag teaming her now to try to wear her out. So far, she is showing no sign of tiring. I have a feeling that we may not be getting much sleep this weekend either. She is chasing Eddie around the house right now. Poor Gus just stands there wagging his tail with a goofy look on his face, he does stop and wrestle with her on occasion.

oooh mel she is lovely...a really pretty girl...I have no idea how people can give up on dogs so quickly, they really must have no idea about labs or dogs in general to not know the effort that needs to be put in at first...thank goodness she is at yours and getting loved and worn out by your boys!

Im sure she will find her perfect home soon!

MyBoyGus - September 13, 2008 07:22 AM (GMT)
I will say that they wanted an older dog, but they thought 1 was old enough. But the problem is, I don't think she is 1, I think she is 7-8 months. She isn't perfect, and she is going to require work, but she is a great pup.

Ugh, those people don't deserve her.

GOODTIMN - September 13, 2008 07:51 AM (GMT)

Oh what a beautiful little girl Layla is! Yep, she doesn't look any older that 8 months from the pictures. Still has that puppy chest and you can see the rements of puppy "fuzz" on her ears too! Now that she is with you Mel, she'll get a good start in life! I wish Debbie could take her. Well, who knows??? Maybe she will!

OMG Layla is so pretty and sweet. You're right she is NOT a year old. Still has that puppy look on her face even.
Hope she finds a good forever home that will train and love her.
If you see that guy....tell him is is VERY imperfect because of what he did or cannot do! Then give him a Bitch slap!! :laughingsmile

:laughingsmile Too funny. I actually never met the husband, the wife brought her over last night. She wanted me to come and get her, but I told her we don't pick up and deliver. For God's sake, I probably live less than a mile from them. I have gotten 2 referrals on her this morning, somebody is coming over at 2. Somebody who wants a puppy. She seems to be a bit calmer this morning, they all do actually. I think they are a bit worn out. Oops, spoke too soon. They are at it again. Well, I better go up and get dressed if somebody is coming over. I'll let you know.

Wow, I didn't even have her 24 hours. I feel like a bed & breakfast instead of a foster. :laughingsmile She was adopted. By people who know exactly what they are getting in for. The adoption coordinator spelled it out for them and I spelled it out for them, and Layla tried to eat the contract when they were filling it out.

I knew she wouldn't last long with that face. So Sweet :love663:
Okay if you didn't see the husband "Bitch Slap" the wife....tell her it was from Layla :laughingsmile

Oh my gosh Layla is so pretty! I am sorry I missed this till now. Wow that was fast on her adoption and I am so happy for her. Oh my gosh so that woman did not want to drive a mile...LOL I acutally live an hour and 20 minutes from our founder so most people that want to come see my fosters have to drive and hour or more. I bet Eddie and Gus miss her since it sounded like they were having a ball playing with her. :clap on Layla getting her forever home. Love her name by the way...

MyBoyGus - October 24, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
I wanted to post a follow-up on Layla.

I got an email from Layla's new family today. They decided to keep the name.

I hope you are doing well and your beautiful dogs are great.  I just wanted to send along some Layla pictures to you.  She is really a wonderful puppy - we love her so much.  We just got back from a week at the beach and Layla was in heaven!!  We still have a lot of work with her, but she's really coming along and picking up things very quick.  She's also picking up every shoe and anything not tied down in our house!! She's gained about 10 pounds since we adopted her and we start puppy obedience classes in two weeks.  She's just a sweetheart.

Made me very happy. Here are some pictures of her in her new home and at the beach.

Oh, and the people that adopted her originally still don't have a dog. Seems like the perfect dog is difficult to find in rescue.

Oh, I am sooooo glad that Layla is so happy and doing well. She really is a beauty!
