Title: Well, Looks Like It Will A Busy Week For Me
Description: in foster land
MyBoyGus - August 29, 2008 04:24 AM (GMT)
I got the call to foster this 2 cuties. I don't want to keep them because 2 dogs are their own pack and it makes things a little strange in the house. They are picking them up on Monday and I said I would keep them overnight until they can get them into the vets. This is Randy and Nancy, I think Nancy may have a bit of Golden in her, and I think Randy is a mix. They were strays and very skinny. The guess is that they are 6 months, but they look a bit younger to me.
Nancy

Randy

Then they are picking up a girl on Wednesday and getting her into the vet. I will probably get her on Thursday or Friday. She is an owner give-up, really pretty girl. She is also 6 months old. We have an adoption day on Sunday the 7th, I imagine that she will get adopted there. Anybody here interested? ahem, Debbie?

Oh Nancy has a face on her just like Edie. It must be those big ears that make them look alike and she has the same eyes. So sweet
GoldenMom - August 29, 2008 01:23 PM (GMT)
Awwww, I couldn't do what you do Mel! I'd have to keep um all!! :laughingsmile
What sweet babies! Nancy is definately Golden, or part anyway and I'd say younger that 6 months, probably around 4 months. Won't be hard to adopt those cuties out!

Oh thats funny, I was going to say she has the same expression as Abbey. All 3 are gorgeous, I am sure they will get adopted straight away. Are they keeping the 2 together?

I'm not sure if they will or not. I doubt they are brother and sister, and I'm not sure how long they have been together. They do get along well though apparently

:wavesmiley Hi Mel........... I'm still very interested in getting another dog BUT I've gone back to work so now I'll have to wait until late May or the first of june. schools out for the summer then so I'll have all summer to potty train and then my husband will have time to basic train while we are both home. I don't think its fair to leave him to try and do it all especially when its me wanting a new puppy. he works from home but hes way too busy to have his eyes on a new baby at all times. so I'm going to wait. makes me sad but its something I have to do.......especially if I want one so bad.
I think thoses babies you have or are getting will be adopted out pretty fast. they are beautiful!! thanks again for thinking of me.

Think of it this way Debbie, a 6 month old is perfect for you. They can hold it all day in a crate to help you potty train them. I work all day and I foster 6 month olds all the time. For all I know, she may already be housetrained, but I don't know the details yet. But you always want to crate at first until you see. But of course, it is your decision. Since adoption day is Sunday the 7th, I'm sure they will be adopted then. :hugsmiley

Oh my gosh they are both just so cute! I love the younger ones with all their energy. It really puts a fire under my seniors to get out their and play with them. So what did Eddie and Gus think of them? I hope you all have a great weekend and hugs to the pups!
MyBoyGus - August 30, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
I'm getting Randy and Nancy on Monday. They were supposed to be getting spayed/neutered yesterday, so they will probably not be doing much. They are only an overnight foster.
I'm getting Katie at some point in the middle of next week. We'll see what happens then, I'll probably have her until Sunday because I'm sure she will be adopted over the weekend. She is just too cute.
goldengirls - September 1, 2008 05:57 PM (GMT)
Hey Mel! I hope that all goes well today with Nancy and Randy. They both are just so cute. Katie is a cutie pie too! Happy Labor Day to you and the pups!
MyBoyGus - September 2, 2008 05:08 AM (GMT)
I never got Nancy and Randy, another foster said that she would take them and keep them. It works out much better for them, so I'm happy, especially for them. Katie will probaby get spayed on Thursday. I'm still on for her.
MyBoyGus - September 4, 2008 02:33 PM (GMT)
I should be getting Katie tomorrow. She was spayed yesterday. It's too bad she isn't going to be able to do much this soon after the spay, she needs quiet time to heal, not play time with 2 rambunctious boys.
MyBoyGus - September 4, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
OK, I will be picking Katie up tomorrow afternoon. The word is that she is really friendly and sweet, but has the normal puppy energy. She was just spayed yesterday, so unfortunately, she won't be able to get it out at my house. I'm sure that Eddie will try but she just can't. She is barely 6 months old and weighs 62lbs. She was owned by an older couple and she was just too much for them. I can't wait to meet her.

We can't wait to meet her either

MyBoyGus - September 6, 2008 01:49 AM (GMT)
I picked her up this afternoon. Poor girl, on Wednesday she was at home with her people, and she was taken for a long ride in the car, given to somebody else, taken to the vet and spayed, and then I went to pick her up today. She was shy and a bit scared when they brought her out, but she warmed up quickly.
The people who had her were an older couple, and not really equipped to deal with puppy rambunctiousness.
When I brought her home, Gus was his usual good self meeting her, it is something he is used to and he is very good it. Eddie was his usual goofball self, he was sort of barking and lunging at her and he scared her. So we all came in the house and she stuck to me like glue. She was under my computer desk peeking out and watching them. She liked Gus pretty much right away, she kind of liked Eddie, but he was a bit overwhelming. She kept getting bolder, she was interested in them, but when Eddie would run up and play bow she would get nervous.
I finally went upstairs to change and all the kids came with me. Eddie was in bed with me and he was giving me kisses. Then Katie got onto the bed too and she gave me some kisses too. Eddie had calmed down a bit by that time and she was able to sniff him, and Gus too. Then she met Holly, liked her right away. It's been about 5 hours now, and they are all pretty comfortable with each other. She is in love with Gus like most of my fosters, and she is comfortable with Eddie, but not enough to play. That's a good thing now because of the spay. We'll see how things go tomorrow.
So she is finally fitting in now. She just laid down at my feet and relaxed, she has been pacing for a while which is common with new fosters.

Awh get that camera out!! :laughingsmile
MyBoyGus - September 6, 2008 02:25 PM (GMT)
I don't know if I will get the chance, I love on the east coast. We are getting tons of rain from Hannah, and Hannah is still in North Carolina.
Katie has decided that she loves Gus, and now she likes Eddie a lot. It was really funny last night, Eddie and Holly were playing and chewing on each other, and she kept circling around them watching and sniffing. I don't know if she has been around other dogs much, but it seemed like she was trying to figure out what they were doing.
She hates the crate, and she was barking a fair amount last night, all night. :sleepsmiley I'm a bity tired this morning.
goldengirls - September 7, 2008 05:56 AM (GMT)
Oh my gosh Mel she sounds so sweet. Your boys sure are great with fosters I see. Your Eddie is like my Oliver being young and wanting to play with the new one. I do hope that you are getting better sleep tonight. Oh that would drive me crazy the barking...LOL
Sultan was shy like you describe Katie. She sure has been through a lot of changes in such a little time. I am so glad that she has you there to comfort her. I do hope that you all find a great home for her.
So do you all adopt out right there on the spot at adoption days? I can't remember if you told me that or not. I saw where you all were getting a lot of rain from Hannah. We got rain here too and lots of wind but that was about all thank goodness. Oh I did have lots of wet paws too...LOL I am about 2 hours away from the coast where it came in. Well do let us know how it goes tomorrow for Katie at adoption day. I love reading about how she is doing. Have a great Sunday and hugs to the pups!
MyBoyGus - September 7, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
Katie got adopted today. She had been a bit shy around strangers, and we went to the adoption day, and she was Miss Social Butterfly. There were 3 families who wanted her, and more who asked about her later. Somebody had to come and sort it out. She ended up going with another dog to some people from Pennsylvania who drove down that morning.
And yes, they can take a dog home from adoption day. They are interviewed by the adoption coordinators and can take the dog home with them. We check up on them later with a house visit. I've done a few, you get a chance to see how the dog is getting along where it is. We always have them at pet stores because people always need leash, collar, bowls (sometimes), toys, food, etc . The pet stores love us, they do a lot of business those days.
I don't remember how many dogs were on the list, we had a few no-shows, but there were only 3 dogs who were there that didn't get adopted, I'm guessing about 15 were adopted. We brought Holly along for moral support for her since she had been acting really shy the day before. Holly barely had a chance to say hi to her before we were surrounded with people. We put a sign on Holly that said "Not available, here for moral support only". People wanted to adopt her anyway. :laughingsmile But she really didn't even need to come as it turned out. Another fine day.

Awww, I'm glad Katie got adopted out but I still think Debbie really missed out on this one! She sounds sooooooo sweet and smart too!

I should add the Randy and Nancy got adopted too.
goldengirls - September 9, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
LOL I had to laugh at Katie all the sudden turning into a social butterfly! Oh that is just so great that she got adopted! I see now how you all do your adoptions. I bet the store does love you all being there and increasing their sales. The heartworm project that I foster for also has adoption days at one of the pet supply stores every other week but they can't take the dog home with them. :clap on adoptiing so many dogs out!
Oh I do not know Holly...you will have to post of picture of her so I can see what she looks like. That was so sweet of her to go for moral support...made me smile! I wanted to see a picture of her with that sign on her...too cute!
goldengirls - September 9, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
Oh did Randy and Nancy get adopted together or seperate? Just wondering....
MyBoyGus - September 9, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
You can see Holly in this thread:
http://goldenretrieverlovers.com/index.php?showtopic=4522 She is Eddie and Gus's best friend. I use Holly because she is more social than Eddie and Gus are. My boys sometimes do well, but can be shy too. Holly is always social. She is a former foster that my friend adopted.
I don't think Nancy and Randy went together, but I'm not sure. They came from the shelter together, but we don't know if they came into the shelter together.

Oh my gosh Holly is just beautiful! Thanks so much for showing me her. She looks like she has a ball at your place too!
MyBoyGus - September 9, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
I should say Holly is the blond. :laughingsmile Eddie is the black lab, he was 8 months in those pictures, that is one of the first days I was fostering him.
goldengirls - September 9, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
I thought she was the yellow lab...she is a cuie pie! Oh my gosh I had not seen those pics of Eddie! Wow is he beautiful...no wonder you had to have him! I love how they all play together....what fun they must have!

She really doesn't. She is the most laid back lab I have ever met. But she does love to play, and Eddie loves to tease her into it. :laughingsmile
