Title: My 3 Fosters...
goldengirls - December 4, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
Hey Mel :wavesmiley remember me? I am sorry I have not posted in so long though I have peeked in and read some over the last few months. I have been so busy and finally things are getting a little better so I will have a little more time.
I did get a golden to foster back in July and she just left on Nov 17th. I cried of course but got another a few weeks before she left. I still have Alex and he is going though heartworm treatment right now. He is just beautiful and I will attach a picture of him.
I also have 2 other fosters here from the Heartworm Project that I foster for also. It is though my vets place and she is so wonderful with Greta and her acupuncture that I am glad to help her out. They rescue those ( all breeds) that they can that are going to be euthanized because of heartworms and give them a second chance. I will attach pics of them also.
I see you have a new addition to your family and oh my he is just beautiful. Well anyway just wanted to let you know how all is going and I do hope to post more.
This is Alex and Coda...Coda is on the right and she is the one that went to her forever home.

Here is Miss Kitty and Kiddo my other 2 fosters....they are just sweetie pies...

How great to hear from you! Wow, Coda is a pretty little girl, I'm surprised she lasted that long. Alex reminds me of Gus a bit. And now you have 2 others, what a big heart you have! And a big bed :laughingsmile
I don't know if you heard, or read, but I kept one of my fosters, Eddie. There are pics of him in a few forums, he is 13 months now and such a sweet sweet boy. I haven't been fostering as much lately, my back yard isn't big enough. I will probably take one over the Christmas Holiday though as we won't have as much room at the kennels.
How is your gang? I take it they love having new friends. Gus does too, although he loves Eddie and is a little slower to take to fosters, its the way he has always been. So he has been a bit put out because Eddie goes to town with the fosters. Anyway, can't wait to hear more!

Hey Mel! I did see pics of Eddie and he is just beautiful! I am so happy that Gus now has a little brother to play with all the time.
I was wondering why I had not seen post lately about new fosters from you. Due to no rain here in SC I have lost so much grass in my back yard so I get a lot of dirty paws when they come back in from all the dirt spots everywhere.
I took Greta to acupuncture today and was talking with her vet (who is also with the Heartworm Project) about taking fosters for Christmas. I will have Miss Kitty and if Kiddo does not get an application on him at adoption day then he will come back or I will get another. Six here is my limit though. I am sort of a neat freak so you can imagine how much I am going behind the pups...LOL...so anymore I would drive myself crazy. They really all are so good though for the most part.
I had only 2 calls on Coda as it was pretty slow over the summer. The family that did get her though had gotten a golden over 10 years ago from our rescue and she had passed in March so they were ready for another. They were just thrilled with her and I know they are going to give her just the best home and love her so much.
Alex is going good. He did not pass his test after a month on the heartworm treatment so he will be tested again next Thursday. I am just hoping he passes then so he can play with everyone without me hovering over him so he keeps in a quit state.
Everyone else is doing good and we are pretty much one happy family here. So nice to hear from you and I hope you and the boys have a great weekend! Back to wrapping presents for me here...LOL Oh and believe it or not 5 sleep in the bed with me :speechlesssmiley Buddy prefers a bed on the floor with that many in the bed.

I take fosters on occasion. I will probably take one Christmas week as we lose a lot of kennel space during the holidays, but I am going away at the end of the week, so they will have to find another place for the foster at that time.
Eddie is so good, and Gus loves having a younger brother. I don't think I can call him a little brother anymore as Eddie is bigger than Gus. When he fills out, he will probably outweigh Gus by at least 10 lbs, and probably more like 20. :speechlesssmiley Gus is still in charge though.
Glad to hear all is going well with you. I know what you mean about those dogs in heartworm treatment. I had one foster like that, that was before I got Gus. You have to be so careful with them. That fosters name was Hank, and he was a big old yellow boy, really pretty. One evening, he saw his reflection in the sliding doors, and started stalking himself. He was being very cautious, and I sort of said BOO! to him and he ran. He was OK, but I felt so bad, I'm sure it scared him, and that is not something you want to do to a dog in heartworm treatment. I really didn't think he would react like that, but I never did that again.
Hope to hear more about your fosters soon, don't be such a stranger!

Wow Mel Eddie is going to be a big guy! I am so happy that him and Gus get a long so well and that Gus is still in charge. Oliver is as tall as Buddy but Buddy is a lot longer and out weighs Oliver by 17 lbs. Oliver is all legs...LOL
Oh yes I freak out when Alex will take off or get loose from me. All are being so good though with him. They just don't understand why they can't play with him especially the younger ones. I just hope that come Thursday we get the all clear so they can all play together. It is hard shuffling them around from different rooms to get outside one bunch then Alex. I am just glad my garage opens to the kitchen and the back yard and I have another door in the living room to the back yard. It makes it easier to have the group one and Alex bathroom breaks.
Oh yes the kennels at the vet where the heartworm project pups are do get filled with dogs during holidays. So I know what you mean on that. I will have 2 from there and Alex too. I had a lady call on Alex today and left a message but she did not leave a phone number with her message...LOL I guess she will call again once she does not hear back from me. It will be awhile though before Alex is ready to go anywhere though I think. We still need to work on aggressiveness with toys and food.
I know it was not at all funny at the time with Hank but now that is a funny story Hank stalking himself in the glass door. They do the funniest things huh? They really are such a delight to have around I think.
I will let you know how the adoption day goes for Miss Kitty and Kiddo next Saturday. I will take Kiddo in with Alex on Thursday and leave him there so he can participate in it. Miss Kitty will stay here as Jean said she hates it there at the vets and all she does is shakes and she wants to just have her go from my house to her forever home now.
Hope you are having a great weekend and hugs to the boys from all of us!!!
Here are a few more pics of the fosters...
First Alex, then Miss Kitty, then Kiddo....

I just wanted to give you all an update on Alex. He finally passed his second Heartworm test last Thursday so now he is ready for his forever home. He fur is growing back nicely too were they shaved it. He also gained weight and is just perfect now. He really is such a sweetie and someone is going to be so lucky to get him. Here he is ready for Santa paws....LOL
Also cutie pie Kiddo got adopted and went to a wonderful new home. Miss Kitty is still here and doing just fine...

Wow, Alex looks a lot like Gus! And now he can play with your crew, it will make his Christmas.

I just wanted to let you all know that Alex went to his forever home yesterday. I am sure he will have a wonderful life with his new family. I have to say that out of all the goldens I have fostered he was one of the most striking ones in looks. We already miss him so much. Each one always takes a little piece of my heart. Yes Mel he does look a lot like your Gus! Here is one of the last pics I took of him showing just how beautiful he is...
MyBoyGus - January 21, 2008 01:08 AM (GMT)
:clap :clap :clap :clap for Alex.
I can't get over the resemblance.
goldengirls - January 22, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
Yes it is scary at times how much some goldens look so much a like. I once was at the grocery store years ago and came out and sitting in a truck was a golden and for a minute my heart raced as it looked just like my Tess.... it scared me. I knew she was home but still I had to look at the dog in the truck real close before I left to make sure it my not my Tess.....LOL
