He is one good looking dog, Mel. The third one, I would frame.
Is that a white dot on his back? They say they are lucky when they have those dots. :shrug
There is that sweet Gus. :hugsmiley
MyBoyGus - July 2, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
More likely dust on the lens. :laughingsmile
Thanks, glad you like the pics. I think I would have to photoshop the grass before I framed it, its not in the best shape.

GoldenFrost - July 2, 2007 12:37 PM (GMT)

He has the softest eyes. What a looker! :love663:
SuzySues - July 2, 2007 01:24 PM (GMT)
Oh my Eddie is gorgous!! Such a handsome pup. You can really see his puppyness in the action shots too. I know I am probably thick, but who is the yellow lab? Is that one of yours too. Sorry if I should know, but I am a ditz!
I can see why Eddie is stealing your heart Mel, there is just something about him. :shrug I think we have all fallen in love with Eddie!
MyBoyGus - July 2, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
The yellow lab is Holly, she is Gus's best friend. She is also a former foster, although technically only for about 10 minutes. Then she was my houseguest for 4 days. She came to lab rescue after having been rescued from a pit bull trainer where they wanted to use her for bait. She was only about a year old. Holly doesn't fight, so I'm sure that she made terrible bait. She had about 100 lacerations around her head and neck when they got her. Its amazing how forgiving they are, and she is the sweetest dog.
I didn't have my camera on Saturday when Gus and Holly were tag-teaming Eddie, it was pretty funny. They had him on the ground at one point and Holly was teasing him at the front, and Gus at the back. They were all having a blast, and everybody there was laughing their butts off. It was pretty funny.
GoldenMom - July 2, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
Oh Mel! What a sweetheart Eddie is! All the pics are great and I agree --- the 3rd one should have a frame around it! No one is even going to see the grass with that gorgeous guy in the picture! He is a heart breaker for sure! I know Debbie would love to have him but her hubby just isn't ready yet.
What a story Holly has! Poor baby! I don't even want to imagine what her life would have been like had she stayed where she was. I hope those people are put away forever! How can they treat a dog that was? :angrysmiley2 Sounds like she and Gus have a wonderful time together and have now taken Eddie into their little family!

How fast do you think he would be adopted if they put that pic up on the website?
GoldenMom - July 3, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
Nano seconds!
You're not thinking of doing that are you? :blues:

drbyer - July 3, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
Please say you're not going to post that! Not yet. We all just love to see his pictures and here what a fabulous job you and Gus are doing with him. He's going to be one we all hate to see go, so......I'll send a bag of dog food.....and a new toy for Gus and Eddie.
MyBoyGus - July 3, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
No, he isn't even listed on the database right now. I think they wanted to see what they had first. If they could be socialized and if they were healthy. And even though they aren't on the database, I got a referral call on him today. His first fosters were taking Eddie and Kenny (the brother) to kids soccor game to socialize them. Somebody met them there and is very interested in Eddie, they were on vacation and just got back. So now I have a big decision to make.
One thing that is keeping me from making a decision is that I don't have his vet records yet, I only know that he was neutered and had his rabies shot. I'm sure that he had everything else, but I don't have the records. Also, his first foster mom told me that he started limping really bad when they had him. They took him to the vet, and he had his knee x-rayed. They really didn't see much, and said it wasn't a cruciate, but it may be a kneecap issue. Or, it could just be because he was crated for the first 6 months of his life and has to still build up muscle a bit. He stopped limping there, and they figured that he had worked it out. But last night, he started limping really bad again. It was only for a few minutes, but it has me concerned. Of course, that was the 3rd night in a row that he was playing hard with other dogs, and he was the smallest. So it could still be a conditioning issue, but I want to take him to my vet before I decide. I can't afford a major issue, and I would rather see Eddie go to somebody who can take care of him like he deserves if he has a major problem.
Luckily, the adoption coordinator said that it would be important for the adopter to know about any problems too, so I have a bit of a reprieve. But only until the weekend. **sigh**
And I need to find an evil grin smiley, I wasn't serious when I posted that. I didn't get the phone call until this afternoon.
drbyer - July 3, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
Oh, that's going to be a hard decision. I understand where you're coming from, and we know you have Eddie's best interest at haert. But, I admit to being selfish and love to look at him! He's still a growing boy so I'm hoping it's one of your thoughts, not something more serious. Problem is, sometimes, people find out what is going to be involved with a serious health issue and decide they can't do it. I know, with Norman and particularly Jerry, our springer, that we could have returned them. But, we didn't like to think about what may have happened to them had we done that. Does this make any sense? It would be great if they'd be returned to a foster or rescue program like yours. Anyway, sorry for rambling...I know you'll know what the right decision is when the time comes. In the meantime.....Keep those pictures coming!
MILLER'S MOM - July 3, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
:blues: that's a hard decision to make. I don't know if I could but you need to do what's best for eddie. has he been limping alot? I hope you find everything out by this weekend but I have to say like denise said I'm selfish and LOVE seeing him!! I really hope things work out for you & gus and eddie. let us know what happends and give eddie & gus a big hug from me. :hugsmiley

I appreciate that you guys understand. Its hard to get a mindset that you actually might keep a foster when you are so used to them going. And some are definitely harder than others. If Eddie goes, it will tear me up. But I also have to think of what is best for him, and if he does indeed have a joint problem, he might do better without another dog and with somebody that can better afford his problems. I'm really confused right now. If I had adopted him and decided that he was mine, it wouldn't be a question, and I would do whatever I could for Gus. But Eddie isn't my dog yet, so I have to decide.
And he was only really limping that one time that I saw. So it very well could be growing pains or muscle strain. I've only had him about 3 weeks and he is growing like a weed.
MyBoyGus - July 3, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
OK, I found the evil grin smiley that I should have posted with the website comment:
GoldenMom - July 3, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Oh Mel! I wouldn't want to be you right now! I know you are agonizing over this. If he was crated for the first 6 months then I would tend to think that is why he may be limping upon hard exercise. The muscles haven't had a chance to build yet so hard exertion would probably cause some tightening of the muscles. Thats what I want to think anyway! My thought is if Eddie went to someone else, even with them knowing the problem --- if there were one --- would they do what was necessary to fix him. You know how people will say "yes, we'll do whatever it takes" and they really don't realize the extent of the problem. Would they then turn him back to your shelter or could they just dump him?? I don't know how it works so that's why I'm asking. Of course I am praying that you will be Eddie's mom but that can only be your decision. I know your decision will be based upon what's best for Eddie.

MyBoyGus - July 3, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
Our adoption contract specifies that if they ever decide to give the dog up, it must come back to us. Of course, that doesn't mean that everybody lives up to the contract.
We'll see how it goes with him, I am going to try to keep him a bit quiet tonight. We'll see how that goes. :laughingsmile But in general, he is a pretty laid back dog, for an 8 1/2 month old.
drbyer - July 4, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
You've done great work with Eddie in the short amount of time you've had him and considering what he's already been through. I'm equally impressed with how Gus has been. I'm not sure any of our guys would handle the steady stream of fosters nearly as well. We're not trying to make your decision harder, especially since you're still waiting on vet reports. So, in the meantime, how about some more pictures??
GoldenMom - July 5, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
So, how did Eddie like his first 4th of July? Was he afraid of the fireworks?
Lynn
MyBoyGus - July 5, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
Its Gus who is afraid of the fireworks, and thunder. Eddie doesn't seem to care much. Eddie did very well, and played hard with his buddy Holly.
GoldenMom - July 5, 2007 02:18 PM (GMT)
Awwww, poor Gus! Dakota was terrified of fireworks too. Its sad to watch them, isn't it? They don't understand the firework noise won't hurt them.
Glad Eddie had a good 4th playing with Holly. Sounds like he is fitting right in!
Lynn
MyBoyGus - July 5, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
Well, Eddie is going to the vet this evening to be checked out. Unfortunately, I will still be at work, so a friend will take him. I am writing something up with the questions that I have. Wish him luck! :dogvet
MILLER'S MOM - July 5, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
:hugsmiley good luck eddie........ I hope everything goes well for you at the dr's tonight. please let us know.
gus, I'm sorry you didn't like the fireworks last night. just think you have a whole year before those bad things come back out! :ph43r:

MyBoyGus - July 5, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately, not a whole year before the next thunder storm. Poor baby.
GoldenFrost - July 6, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
Tara is scared to death of fire works and thunder as well.
It was our July 1st holiday (Canada Day) last Sunday and the kids were letting off crackers....poor baby, she was trying to hide in the bathroom with her head stuck under the towel that hung on the rack. :shrug
GoldenMom - July 6, 2007 01:07 PM (GMT)
Prayers said and fingers crossed for you Eddie boy!
Lynn
MILLER'S MOM - July 6, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
any news on eddie's vet visit? :shrug
MyBoyGus - July 6, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Eddie's vet visit went fine. The vet said that his occasional limping was most likely due to having being crated for so long, or maybe straining something. I still don't have his original vet records though. So now I just have to make my decision. :shrug I don't know what I will do.
MILLER'S MOM - July 8, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
sounds like everything went well for our little eddie. :clap :clap :clap
now the thinking is going on............... :angel2: :dogbone: praying you keep him!
Debbie & mason
MyBoyGus - July 9, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
Well, Eddie is still with me. Nobody called me about him this weekend, or emailed, and I didn't get in touch with anybody either. They faxed his vet records to the fax machine at work today, so I won't get them until tomorrow. So as of now, I am still fostering him, and he is still not in the database.
Eddie and Gus went for a hike down to the creek today. Gus had a great time as always, and swam and swam. Eddie was not quite so sure about the water. He did finally get in up to his chest, but he wouldn't swim. Gus wasn't sure about the water the first time I took him swimming either, so hopefully, Eddie will eventually find out how much fun it is. He is a very tired boy tonight, he had a busy weekend.
Merlinsmom - August 31, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
Eddie is just beautiful Mel-I can so understand why you fell in love with him. What a gorgeous boy
