Title: My New Foster Potomac
Description: Mac for short
MyBoyGus - March 2, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
I'm calling him Mac because Potomac is too long, and I refuse to call a dog Potty. I just got him tonight.
Potomac is 1 and was a stray to a shelter. He is a big boy with a big blocky head and big feet and long legs, and a skinny little body. He currently weighs 68lbs, but he has a lot of filling out to do. I imagine that he will be 80-90lbs when he is done growing. He is very handsome.
He is a really good boy, seems to be housetrained, and has good house manners. He is pretty laid back for a 1 year old who has been in the shelter and kennel for several weeks. He is sleeping at my feet as I type. Gus and Mac seem to really like each other, but they haven't played yet. I think they are still getting to know each other. Mac was ready to play before Gus, and when Gus was ready to play, Mac wasn't.
Adoption day is Saturday, so I may not have him long. I don't know if I will even get a chance to get pics of him, I have to work tomorrow and then off to the adoption day Saturday morning, and black dogs just don't photograph well in the house. Sshhhh, he is chasing bunnies now. :laughingsmile

Awww, what a sweet face he has! Boy, Gus is sure lucky! He gets to play with different dogs all the time! Sunny would love that! Potomac, Huh? What a strange name! Wonder what his former owners called him. Hopefully not Potty. I'd be calling him Mac too! :laughingsmile

Its hard to come up with unique names for all the dogs in the system. We many times have a Jake #1, Jake #2, Jake #3, etc at the same time. We have at least 2 Bailey's on the site right now. Other names too. So they try to name them unique names, knowing that most people will change them when they adopt the dog. I think they are into rivers now, because we have Potomac and Shenendoah. When you get 600-700 dogs in a year, and have to name most of them, it can be hard to come up with unique names.
And the picture doesn't do him justice. He has a very expressive face,

Potomac got adopted today, as expected. His new name will be Bailey. He has a new sister, a 2 year old yellow lab. They got along really well, and he new sister even laid down next to him (he was still standing). There were a lot of people looking at him because he was sooooo handsome and sweet, but I think this is a good match. :partysmiley
And on the whole, the rescue adopted out 20 dogs today, and 1 went foster to adopt. So a very successful day! Oh, and Shannon got adopted today too.
