Title: I Volunteered To Take Two 3 Month Old Pups
Description: Just for the long weekend

MyBoyGus - February 17, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
Or until they find permanent fosters. They came in from a shelter a few hours away, and are both in 1 crate together right now at the vet. They are in isolation because they came from the shelter. So I decided to get a little puppy fix and take them over the weekend if they can't find a permanent foster. I can't keep them during the week because I'm gone too long during the day, but at least they will have a chance to get a little socialized over the weekend. Poor pups are a little scared and aren't sure what is going on. I'll post some pics when I get them.

MyBoyGus - February 17, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
Well, I have them. They are really cute, 2 black lab mix females named Shannon and Morgan. I don't know which one is which, not sure it matters. The Lab Rescue volunteer came by early this morning, and promptly deposited 2 puppies in my arms, literally.

They had been at the vet for a week, and only had leash walks, so they were ready to stretch their legs. They have been chasing each other around the house for a while, just wrestling and running. Gus is less than thrilled about the whole thing, he has been growling at them a bit when they try to engage him, he pretty much wants nothing to do with them. We are having a little time-out and the pups are in the crate. I'll probably have to take some pics of them in the crate, otherwise they are moving too much. :laughingsmile

Aw... Gus is acting the part of a grumpy old man!! :laughingsmile

Those little black zoomies should keep you busy for a while... Cant wait to see pics of them!!

GoldenPup - February 17, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Two puppies! Poor Gus! Haha

Enjoy them...and don't let them tire you out.

MyBoyGus - February 17, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
OK, first pics. One is outside on the ice, and yes, that is all ice, and the others are in the crate, because I couldn't get a pic any other way. They are usually on the move. :laughingsmile I'll have somebody come over later to help me take some pics of them.

Sshhhhh, they are napping now, I can go take a shower. :laughingsmile

Gus actually took a break and went home with his friend Holly for a little while. He isn't too sure about these 2 puppers, he has been pretty good about it, but he does keep them in their place and lets them know that he is boss dog around here.

Well, I finally put puppy collars on them, so the one with the blue collar is Morgan and the one with the red collar is Shannon. But I can't tell which is which in the pics, they didn't have their collars on yet. :laughingsmile A friend of mine brought her daughter over to play with the puppies and she decided which was which. I think the one on the left is Morgan and the one on the right is Shannon, at least thats what I think now. Ask me in an hour and I might have a different answer. :laughingsmile

 they are so cute!!!! I have a 14 years old black lab and I know what she was like as a puppy. she hated her crate and would find ways to escape. I would come to her at the door and my house destroyed! :laughingsmile I miss her being a puppy........ I'll take one!! :jumpingsmiley1

good luck with your week-end.

I bet they are in the crate when I leave. :laughingsmile I started crating them separately to get them used to being apart, they can still see each other, but they are apart. With 2, at least they wear each other out, I just have to keep an eye on them, and of course provide love. They are just loving the fact that they can stretch their legs out and run around, and play with toys. I have a referral for one of them, so I am waiting for a phone call.

They are little pistols, run and run and play, and then crash for a few hours. They did sleep through the night last night. When they start acting over-tired, they go into the crate for a nap. Now if they can just learn to give kisses without getting teeth involved. :laughingsmile

SuzySues - February 18, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Oh they sound so sweet & you sound smitten Mel!! :laughingsmile Are they potty trained?

MyBoyGus - February 18, 2007 07:56 PM (GMT)
Nope, not potty trained. I'm always smitten with puppies, most people are. They are already gone to another foster. Somebody is looking at them tonight to take 1, and they have a foster for the other one, and in the meantime, somebody else is getting a puppy fix. :laughingsmile Having 3 month olds for a day or 2 usually cures me for a while, I like the 5 to 7 month olds much better, and so does Gus. He really wanted nothing to do with the pups, they were too young for him. When I dropped the pups off, the person that was taking them was dropping 2 other dogs off at another foster's house, and we met there. One of those girls look like she had just had puppies recently, she definitely had them in the past, and I think she thought she had found her pups. She was smitten.

The foster that took the pups for tonight had never fostered 3 month olds before, and she had a grin on her face from ear to ear, so I am happy that she will get a chance at a puppy fix too.

MyBoyGus - February 18, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Well, Morgan got adopted. I liked them both, but she was my favorite. They found a foster for the other one, so all is well.
:coolpartysmiley

SuzySues - February 18, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
Oh great news that Morgon got adopted, I am sure Shannon will get adopted really soon, they are so cute!! Oh that poor love thinking they were her pups :hugsmiley It makes me so angry those poor darlings!

MyBoyGus - February 18, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
Why angry? She liked the pups a lot, it wasn't that big a deal. I think she was 7, way too old to be having pups. That made me madder than anything. She was just very cute with the pups, really wanted to interact with them. The other girl that was with her was indifferent to them.

SuzySues - February 19, 2007 08:00 PM (GMT)
That's what I meant, that she had puppies & they were taken from her & then she isn't wanted either! No wonder she was so happy to see Morgan & Shannon.

MyBoyGus - February 19, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
I don't know their story, but it is possible that the older girl was rescued from a puppy mill. She is with a loving foster now, and will hopefully get adopted soon. I like to get my baby fix as will as my puppy fix, but it doesn't mean I want them around permanently. :laughingsmile Babysitting and fostering, thats more my speed. I think she just liked pups. And just like with people, the women love babies, and the men would rather wait until they are older to interact with them. And yes, that is a broad generalization.

MyBoyGus - February 19, 2007 11:38 PM (GMT)
OK, this is funny. I got a call today from the family that adopted Morgan, they have 4 kids. They were worried, they said that Morgan wasn't eating very well, she would eat, but would only eat about half her food. I asked them a few questions, and then I finally asked how much they were feeding her. They said that the foster I handed the pups off to said to feed them 2 cups 3 times a day. :sadsmiley1 I kind of chuckled and told them that that was an adult sized portion, and that they should be getting about 3/4 of a cup to a cup 3 times a day. They felt much better, said that maybe she was eating OK, it was all the perspective. I am still laughing, 6 cups of food in a day for a 15 lb puppy. I'm glad that I talked to them before it went on more than 2 meals. Luckily, she would only eat until she wasn't hungry.

Emma&Tilly - February 22, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
LOL! 6 cups, they would of had to roll her out for a walk!! :laughingsmile

Merlinsmom - February 26, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
Oh my gosh thats funny!

If it had been Merlin he'd have ended up really overwei......oh....wait....

:laughingsmile :laughingsmile :laughingsmile
